Hockessin Soccer Club

“I am extremely excited about this new program. It is very difficult to work on higher level skills if players don’t have a level playing surface. This program gives teams 30 training sessions on the new turf field as well as more space on less used premier grass fields which is going to help the individual player’s technical
development considerably and all for a minimum cost.”

- HSC Director of Coaching, Scott Mosier

Bobby Tsaganos of the U13 Girls Hotspurs:

"It is my belief that the HSC Academy Program will rival such programs as FC Delco and PDA. Delaware players will no longer have to leave the state in order to find quality training and facilities. This is an exciting time, for the serious soccer player who wants to develop his or her skills in a well organized program such as the one being offered at the HSC.”

Jim Magner, U-11 Boys Arsenal parent:

"I am excited that my son is going to have an opportunity to train and develop his skills on great facilities at a discounted price.  I am confident that the Academy Program is going to not only help our team play at a higher level, but help my son reach his fullest potential as an individual."

HSC President, Pat Cunningham:
“By implementing the academy program, HSC continues to develop programs leading the Delaware area in player development. This club, and specifically this program, is unique because of the ability to offer quality training facilities such as the new turf field and premier grass fields for a very low cost."

HSC Academy

Hockessin Soccer Club is excited to announce the new Academy Program. We feel that it is important to offer a higher level of training and better surfaces to train on to help the top teams and players reach their fullest potential. To do this HSC has created the Academy Program, which will address the club, team and player needs for a higher level of play. This program will be offered to the top teams in each age group U11 and older.

Our U-9 & U10 age groups will be assigned to our Developmental Academy program.

Benefits of the Academy Program:

Train on quality fields:  Turf field for 30 one and a half hour sessions per year, all other sessions will be held at Smith Estate.  Academy teams will train at Smith Estate, making this our trophy facility.  Top teams need quality surfaces to develop their skills.  It is important that Hockessin’s higher level teams have the ability to work on higher level skills.

Training/Coaches gear:  All academy teams will be in uniform for practices and games.  For this, players get one Adidas HSC Academy Team training t-shirt each year.  It is suggested to buy an optional third jersey or a second academy t-shirt to train in the other night.  Coaches get one Adidas HSC Academy Team coaching top each year.

Money raising:  HSC will hold a fundraiser and/or tournament to help academy teams travel nationally and internationally to experience the highest level of play and different cultures.

College night/clinic: Once the academy team is old enough to start pursuing collegiate opportunities players, coaches, and parents will be able to attend the college night and have access to Hockessin’s college resources and contacts.

Tryout Process:  HSC will supply independent evaluators, which will assist the coaches with the evaluation of players free of charge at every age.

Payment for education:  Licensing & coach’s clinic/convention staff is paid by HSC.  It is important to continue to renew and update the latest knowledge about coaching your team.

Cost: Total cost per season for an academy team player is $300.  HSC travel teams not participating in the Academy program are $200/player per season so it is an increase of $100/player for the Academy team benefits.

Technical development is the key to any successful player. It is important that players learn to evaluate their play based on their individual skills as opposed to results and how they fared against an opponent. By focusing on the individual skills such as dribbling, striking and receiving a ball, players are given the confidence to pursue any environment they choose as they get older. Their enjoyment and confidence in the game of soccer will increase which in turn will make them happy players.

Competition is also necessary to promote socialization and the ability to work with other team members working towards a common goal. At the same time, players are guided through dealing with adversity when they don’t get the result they had hoped. The developmental academy will incorporate competition in fun games and play against other age appropriate teams, but the coaches and trainers will always be stressing their individual skills.

Facilities for the Developmental Academy are unmatched. They will have access to the new turf field as well as top grass fields for their sessions. They will also have an opportunity to put games and practices on DVD’s while on the turf field to watch and show family members and friends.

Parent education is necessary as well for the development of these young individuals. Parent meetings are held by the team and the club to develop the knowledge for parents to assist in the programs success. Videos and media are available to support this mission. Our main concern is the focus on technical ability as opposed to results; mistakes are presented as learning opportunities.

Need based assistance is also available for those that are motivated, but don’t have the means. HSC wants to be sure this program is available to all those that are interested, not just the families that can afford large price tags.

Hockessin’s mission is to not only promote the game of soccer, but also to promote the development of happy, healthy young people. Therefore it is necessary to create an environment conducive to the development of the whole person. The curriculum will take into account the physical, mental and social areas of each individual player.

Why is this program so inexpensive? Because Hockessin Soccer Club feels that if we can start the players and parents out with a solid foundation of knowledge and skill about the game, then the future for those players is unlimited. We feel it is crucial to give as many opportunities to our youth at as low a cost as possible in order to expose everyone we can to the beautiful game. This reason is also why Hockessin offers need based assistance for those that are motivated, but don’t have the means.
